Ten strangers, each having escaped justice for a past crime, are lured to a remote and desolate island called off the coast of Devon. Their mysterious host, "U.N. Owen" (which cleverly sounds like "unknown"), is absent. After dinner, a gramophone record accuses each guest of murder. One by one, they begin to die according to the nursery rhyme "Ten Little Soldier Boys" — and each death matches a verse. With no escape and no one else on the island, the survivors realize the killer is among them. Paranoia, guilt, and terror mount as they try to unmask the murderer before becoming the next victim.
